DES (Interactive European School) is a private bilingual nursery, kindergarten and primary school. which host approximately 300 pupils and 55 teachers.
Dr. Billie Konstantara, founder and CEO of the school, proposes a differentiated educational approach based on the theory of “Multiple Intelligences”, developed by Howard Gardner. DES educational approach is unique. Part of the basic programme, starting from the first grade, is creative learning through literature, arts, story-telling, music, coding, STEM and more. The unique surroundings allow teachers to use interactive teaching methods i.e. pet therapy with the farm animals, plant a tree day, planting vegetables in the green house, art in nature. This encourages curiosity of our pupils and keeps them motivated.
DES Primary School is an IB PYP World School, teaching the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) from Year 1 to Year 6. IB World Schools share a common philosophy – a commitment to improve the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of pupils by delivering challenging, high quality programmes of international education that share a powerful vision.
In the spirit of international mindedness, starting from Year 1, pupils learn French, Spanish or German as a foreign language and they develop a deeper understanding and an appreciation for the cultures and countries around the world.
DES school provides a range of social activities: tennis, gymnastics, football, yoga, music, art and STEM workshops, editorial teams, 3 “houses” (clubs) - Pythagoras, Thales, Democritus-with common goals, activities and rewards.
The teachers also encourage the pupils to participate in other social activities regarding charity (collecting books to donate to disadvantaged children, raising money for the poor, spending time with the elderly), the environment (World Water Museum, clean-up days at beaches, plant a tree, recycling) and reading books (readathon, international book giving day).
